As the first snow of the season falls in Chicago it's time to accept that winter is here and dust off every single layer of warmth we'll need for the cold months ahead. Our jackets are really our first line of defense but they lend themselves to being the focal point of a winter fit. I've rounded up a lot of stylistic options for when you're looking for your coat to be the bright light in this ever so dreary winter season.
To start, here's what I'm working with for my coat collection. Most of my items are from Asos, Na-kd, or Mango. Poshmark is a great place to find coats if you search by brand. I've found that blazer and trench coats in basic, neutral colors cover the bases of every day wear and lay a great foundation for your collection. Puffers and leather jackets are great to play with and are easily elevated with different cuts and textures. A good cropped and lined leather jacket is a necessity for winter nights out.
On most cold days I'm sure most of us say fuck the fashion and go for whatever is comfortable, practical, and warm. I tried to incorporate some practicability in every category, although I'm not a great use case as I'm quick to abandon sensibility when I see something fun and pretty.
